What Do We Really Want?

What do we really want
From any situation?

What is our ultimate objective?

We normally seek for things
Which can be threatened,
And the result if successful
Is a temporary high
Followed by the inevitable
Fall which must eventually follow.

Finally, we discover
That the essence of what
We truly want
Cannot be threatened
And lies within
Beyond our endless seeking.

We can always know
What that is
By the sense of
Peace it brings to us.
